Soda firing is an atmospheric firing technique where Sodium Bi Carbonate and Sodium Carbonate are added into the kiln when it’s at its peak firing temperature. The extreme temperature causes the soda to vaporize, creating its own glaze, which is then carried on the flame throughout the kiln.
In this firing, the sodium was introduced after about 2 days of continuous firing, with the kiln temperatures reaching well over 2000°F. the kiln was then left to cool for another 2 days.
